Spring Tour's At Farmer Bill’s Country MarketWe at Farmer Bill’s Country Market have been brainstorming.
We have come up with “Ponds, Puddles and Creeks” farm tour. What is this you ask? Well it is all about everything and anything that lives in water. Frogs are very unique creatures and children love to explore the nature around us all. With this in mind we have researched different tours in North America that provide what we at Farmer Bill’s are trying to create. Learning about life in ponds and how these creatures help farmer’s is extremely fascinating, even for even for us as adults! Children need to explore at this age group the concept that is taught, and here at Farmer Bill’s we want to do just that. Creating a program that is hands on fun for young students to learn all about frogs, wetland plants, aquatic bugs and surrounding of healthy water, which allows them to grow and have a purpose in this life. So what happens on this tour? Well your class can book to come to Farmer Bill’s Country Market in May. Here you will take a hay wagon ride to a pond with tadpoles, frogs, plants and so much more. Your students can collect a few tadpoles to take back to your classroom if you wish. Raise the tadpoles to frogs and have someone bring them back to the farm for release. Another option is having myself come to the class to collect the frogs that you have raised. The class can then do a story or something related to how they raised these frogs and stages of its life. You then go back to the market to have a snack and drink provided by us. The tour is about 1 and ½ hours long. Raising tadpoles in your classroom can be a very knowledgeable experience for your students. I have documents that are very simple to instruct you on raising tadpoles. All you need is a small fish bowl, or aquarium. Some boiled lettuce, some water and time. Once your frogs are developed you can then identify what type of frog you have as well. I have information on the variety of frogs in our area.Collecting tadpoles will be great fun. Preplanning for your trip to Farmer Bill’s can be making your pond nets. Recycle a clothes hanger and some nylons and make a net before coming to the farm.
